A Grand Defense

The world can be a dangerous place. And despite proper precautions, anybody at any time can find themselves suddenly facing unexpected danger. How would you react if you or someone you loved was suddenly confronted with an imminent threat of violence? What would you do? What should you do? These are questions not easily answered, but they are questions that every one of us needs to ask ourselves. What should I do? What can I do?

As part of Força’s grand opening celebration this Saturday, April 16, Joshua McMillian, Chief of Public Safety at Arkansas Tech University, will be leading a free Community Self-Defense Seminar at 3:00 pm, posing these very questions and providing some concrete answers. The seminar will teach practical techniques that anyone can use to increase awareness of their surroundings, to avoid becoming a victim of random violence, and to disable or deflect an attacker if necessary.

McMillian – who holds a 6th degree black belt in Aikido, a 4th degree
black belt in Judo, and a blue belt in Jiu Jitsu – has served in law enforcement for 20 years and knows all too well how fast a dangerous situation can turn deadly if these questions elicit wrong answers. Through this seminar, he seeks to equip members of the community with the knowledge and means necessary to answer these questions at a moment’s notice if they are ever forced to act in defense of themselves or others.

Of course, the best defense is built on multi-tiered and practiced techniques. Throughout the day, Força will be offering free seminars on a variety of martial arts topics including a bully-proofing seminar at 10:00, a grappling seminar at 1:00, and a kickboxing seminar at 2:00. All events, including the self-dense seminar at 3:00, are free and open to the entire
River Valley community. Join us for a day full of fun, fitness, functional techniques of self-defense and, of course, free food. If you have ever wondered if martial arts is for you, this is a great opportunity to find out for yourself all that

Força has to offer and to learn some valuable defense skills that you will hopefully never have to use.

Força Martial Arts & Fitness’ Grand Opening celebration takes place this Saturday, April 16, from 10:00 am to 3:30 pm, at its new location, 900 West E Street in Russellville, just west of Stoby’s off Main Street. Bring the whole family! Invite your friends! With something for everyone (psst…there will be a bouncy house to wear the kids out!), it is an event you will not want to miss.
